Description

BILL SEXTON HOME: The William Sexton home lay across the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks, northwest of the mouth of Pinole Creek. Sexton rented from the Fernandez family. William Sexton was born in Ireland in 1861. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1868 and became a naturalized citizen. His son, Bill, was born in 1898. In 1930, father and son were living in this bay-front home. Bill attended Pinole-Hercules School #1 and worked as a carpenter and truck driver for the Selby Smelting Company. By 1940, Bill and his wife, Vera, had moved to a home on San Pablo Avenue. The 1958 Pinole flood washed away what was left of the Sexton home, seen here in 1955.
