Greenfield's Department StoreDescription
GREENFIELD’S DEPARTMENT STORE: In 1905, Pinole merchant Abraham Greenfield built a large, three-story building with a cupola and a skylight on Pear Street, across from St. Joseph’s Church, and called it the “Big Department Store.” Greenfield sold everything one would need without having to go out of town — hardware, furniture, groceries, notions, liquor, tobaccos, kerosene, farming tools, clothing, shoes and candies. The Greenfield building and business was a downtown landmark for many years. In the 1930s, Mr. and Mrs. Greenfield and daughter, Rosalie, moved to San Francisco. New owners removed the third story of the building. In the 1950s, the building was purchased and remodeled by locals Alex Clark and Bob Dutra. Many Fiesta del Pinole parades passed by it.Copyright
