Name/Title
Runner: Country Attic 219 Buffet ClothDescription
A five-color silkscreen print on heavyweight off-white linen depicting silhouettes and outlines of painted tinware, woodware, glass bottles, ceramics, cast iron and cooking implements. A dove, two roosters, an eagle and a pheasant are rendered in the manner of Pennsylvania “Dutch” folk art and calligraphy exercises.
This runner appears in the c.1954 brochure “Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints Kitchen Hangings”. A c.1955 Country Prints price list describes this runner, “219 Country Attic Buffet Cloth — (New!) 17x52. Heavy textured natural linen with somewhat contemporary design of old objects. Subdued Red, Mustard, Grey-Greens and Black.” It was offered with matching napkins in solid red or green with printed black dots.
The c.1955 price list also states, “Pure Linen Kitchen Runners and Towels, Nice enough to “Hang” or Frame — in fact we now offer any of these framed in a flat early black frame at $10.00.”
This runner is also listed on the January 1960 Country Prints price list in the same colorway mentioned above, and it appears in the c.1960 brochure “Mat Sets by Robert Darr Wert/Country Prints”, p.5.
Later in the early 1960’s, it seems a brighter version was produced which matches the colors of a similar c.1960 framed print; see images below.
Edges are straight stitched and fringed.Made/Created
