Description

A Country Prints production sample retained as a print record. A placemat set with two silkscreen print designs. Placemat: a three-color silkscreen print on white linen of eight stylized herb plants potted in different early American copper and cast iron cooking vessels. Napkin: a one-color silkscreen print of 128 stylized plants on a choice of white or herb green linen. This set appears in the c.1955 brochure “Country Prints Mat Sets and Table Squares by Robert Darr Wert” in one colorway: copper, black and green on white linen; with two napkin choices: black print on herb green linen, and copper on white linen. It is described on the Spring 1958 Country Prints price list in three colorways and two linen choices, “132 Herbs — Herb plants in early pots — Blue or Green on White — Brown on Tan.” According to the product tag on this example, this design was produced in three colorways: brown, blue, or green. Edges are straight stitched and fringed. A matching tile was also produced: Kitchen Garden T-15; see images.
