Description

1916-1918 10th Battery Canadian Field Artillery pennant. 7th Battery, St. Catherine's. Triangular, dark red wool. At left side near rope well is sewn an 11 cm. high white linen "I". In centre of pennant is sewn a 24 cm. diameter white linen circle with a 10 x 15 cm. red linen rectangle (First Canadian Division symbol). Some 29 cms. from pennant tip is sewn a yellow cotton silhouette of a cannon and ramrod.

Use

This pennant flew near the headquarters of the 7th Battery Canadian Field Artillery from 1914-1917. The Battery, armed with 18-pounder quick-firing guns, fought in Belgium and France.

Context

In November 1917, during the fighting at Passchendaele, the Battery suffered a 200 percent casualty rate. Captain C. J. Bell, a 7th Battery Officer wounded in action, brought the pennant back with him to Canada as a souvenir in 1917
