1917-1918 38th Battalion Sergeant's service dress jacket made of tan khaki twill wool. The collar is closed with two metal hooks and eyes. On each collar, is a brass C38 collar badge (2 cm wide x 3 cm high) denoting the Canada 38th infantry battalion. The shoudlers are reinforced with rifle patches. On each shoulder is a Canada 38th battalion brass button (2 cm diameter) and a brass Canada badge (4.5 cm x 1 cm). The front button placket is closed with five brass Canada 38th battalion buttons (3 cm diameter). There are two pleated breast pockets closed with a buttoned scalloped flap. On the waist, are two slash pockets with a buttoned scalloped flap. The button closing all the pockets are matching Canada 38th battalion buttons (2 cm diameter).On each arm is a 4th division patch (green rectangle with a black circle over top) sewn to the arm denoting the 38th battalion. On the 4th division patch, is a silver maple leaf embroidered with silver bullion wire. Below, is a chevron denoting the rank of a sergeant. Attached to the back side panels, are brass belt hooks.
The inside is unlined. On the left of the jacket, is an inside breast pocket made of green twill cotton or linen. On the right of the jacket, towards the bottom hem, is a pocket for field dressings. The buttons are uncommonly secured on the inside with a single leather strip that is threaded through the button shank.Made/Created
