Description

1914-1919 Allied Victory Medal 420771. CPL. A.H. Newman .43.CAN.Inf. A circular bronze medal with a rainbow patterned ribbon fastened through a loop at the top of the medal. The ribbon colours are as follows: violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, which are then repeated in the inverse order. The obverse side of the medal depicts the figure of Victory, or often referred to as "Victoria," the Greek and Roman personification of her namesake. The reverse side reads "THE GREAT / WAR FOR / CIVILISATION / 1914-1919." Awarded to all ranks of the British fighting forces and fighting forces of the Empire, to civilians under contract, and others employed with military hospitals who served in a unit in a theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. It was also awarded to members of the British Naval mission to Russia (1919--1920) and for mine clearance in the North Sea between 11 November 1918 and 30 November 1919
