Description

1914-1920 British War Medal "Sapper J.W. Sanders, C.E." A silver medal with a multicolored ribbon. Orange appears in the center of the ribbon; blue, black, and white border the orange. The colors do not have symbolic meaning. The front of the medal depicts King George V with a Latin inscription. The back of the medal shows St. George riding a horse and the dates of the Great War. St. George is flattening the Central Powers, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. The recipient's name, rank, and service number were inscribed along the rim of the medal.

Context

The silver medal was given to all men and officers of the British Empire who served in any theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. It was also extended to personnel who served in Russia between 1919 and 1920.
