Catharine, the daughter of Sally Perry’s brother, Chandler Perry, and his wife, Delight Morse, of Waterford, Maine, painted a family register. (A sampler from Sally Perry's school comes earlier in this section of the exhibition.) Catharine's register includes a mimicking of queen stitch to spell out the title, “Genealogy” at the top, the word “Married” underlined, and the use of the word “Progeny” prior to the naming of the offspring. It was probably created in the early 1830s; although it includes two dates from the early 1840s, they seem to have been added later. Catharine appeared on the U.S. Federal Census, living with her parents, through 1860. She died in 1863 and is buried in Elm Vale Cemetery in Waterford with her parents, who passed away in 1871.Label Type
