19th Century, North Union Shakers, Warrensville Township, 1860s, Boulevard Neighborhood, Shaker Heights, ArchitectureDescription
Undated Plate 26 from from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing a small building, allegedly the Center Family's first meeting house, along Lee Road. The image shows evidence of negative retouching, a common 19th-century practice in which details were added, removed, or obscured directly on the glass plate negative using pencil, ink, or scratching techniques.
Baus description: "[Plate 25] Garden and east side (rear) of meeting [house] looking toward Lee Rd. At the right probably the first church built in 1826; and beyond this the roof of middle family house. At left a part of the wash house can be seen.
