Scope and Content

Two handwritten letters and their respective envelopes from Jemima "Mima" Adaleen Mousseau in Grafton, Ohio to Charlotte (Pilot) Stanley in Cleveland, Ohio. In the first letter, dated June 22, 1934, Jemima introduces herself to Charlotte Stanley and recounts her memories from her time in the North Union Shaker Village and of the Pilot family. She describes herself as "the only one left of the three stolen Manominee [Menominee] Indian children brought one dark night to the Shaker village." At the end of the letter, she asks Mrs. Stanley to share the year Jemima was brought to the settlement because she planned to write a book. In the second letter, dated July 20, 1934, Jemima thanks Charlotte for her response and shares information about her children and grandchildren.
