Plate 66 from from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing North Union Shaker women hanging bleached wool on clotheslines.
Baus description: "We find the Shaker women bleaching wool, to be used for their own manufacture as well as for the market. Most of the wool was used for stocking yarn. They used dyes of their own make, and the women as well as the older children were expert with knitting needle. All in the society were put to work at the kind they were best adopted for; or were taught to do so if they had no experience in any line."Photograph Details
