Description

Plate 39 from from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing a group of people and a few cows on the shores of Upper Shaker Lake (Horseshoe Lake). Print most likely made from glass plate negative from Alma Stoll Seitz (P-326). Baus description: "The Upper Lake was probably made in 1826, when the first grist mill was built. Later the woolen mill received its water power from this source. Top, is view looking north, and the lower westward toward dam in distance."
