Plate 68 from from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing members of the Hecker family at the dam at Upper Lake (Horseshoe Lake). Baus description: "Passing from the old tree they wander to the old dam of the upper lake, nearby. This dam built nearly 75 yrs. ago from the time the photo. was made still looks strong enough to last a few centuries. The water of this lake furnished power for the first grist mill of 1826, and later for the woolen mill. Group composed of Hecker family, whose farm adjoined this section."
