Context

In 1924, Edythe Turner, a teacher at Malvern School, began implementing Shaker-focused activities in her classroom that grew into a district-wide third grade Shaker unit and a permanent collection of Shaker artifacts. With the help of Pearl Stark, another third grade teacher who pioneered the promotion of Shaker heritage in the schools, Turner provided engaging educational opportunities built on extensive research and community connections.
