Scope and Content

Statement of title and incumbrances for land in Lot No. 43, Warrensville Township, previously owned by William Cowley and Federick J. Welton, to Alonzo A. Gillette. Abstract created on June 18, 1881 by the Abstract Office of Odell & Cozad. Transcript: State of Title to and Incumbrances upon the following described premises situated in the Township of Warrensville, County of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio and known as being a part of Lot No. 43 in said Township and bounded as follows: Southerly by East and West Road; Westerly by the North and South Road; Easterly by the Westerly fence of the Pear Orchard and Northerly by a line parallel with the East and West road and so far there from as to contain 8 1/4 acres of land after excepting the cemetery. 1) A mortgage on this land Vol. 111-206 for 3770 from Wm. Cowley & wife to F. J. Welton is unconcealed. Premises were afterwards conveyed to Welton. Does this cancel? 2) Wilbur Stiles owned an undivided 1/3 of this land by will of this father Asa Stiles in 1833. We find no conveyance from him. He may have died and his brothers & sisters inherited his interest but the records fail to disclose any conveyance from him. 3) Hiram Stiles and Mandana his wife appear to have owned an undivided interest in this land in 1849 and we find no conveyance from them for the same. Lucinda Stiles wife of Amos C. Stiles also had an interest in same and Amos C. Stiles and Margaret L. convey same in 1852. Lucinda and Margaret L. may be the same person. 4) Deed of this land from Wm. Cowley and wife to F.J. Weldon has no [seals?] to signatures in 1862. Alonzo A. Gillett to Federick J. Welton Mortgage. Vol. 190 Page 492 Dated Sept 18. 1871 To secure $900.00 on above & more premises Not Cancelled The last half of the Taxes of 1880 are a lien. The Taxes of 1881 are a lien. We have examined the Title to the above described premises from 1795 to this date and the same is good in Alonzo A. Gillett and free from Incumbrances except as above shown (excepting the above noted [defects?]) as appears by the Records of Cuyahoga County at this date. June 18,1881 1:00 P.M. Odell & Cozad
