Plate J from from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing an elevated view looking east from the tower of the Kirtland Temple of the valley in Kirtland, Ohio. Baus description: "From the tower of the temple, the scenic effect is wonderful, as the rolling hills, the fertile valley, the winding river and diverting roadways greet the observer. Harvest fields and buildings scattered here and their lend enchantment to the scene. Joseph Smith nearly a hundred years ago certainly recognized the beauty spots of nature."
