19th Century, 1880s, Warrensville Township, Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights, North Union ShakersDescription
Unnumbered plate from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing the flour mill (gristmill) on the old sawmill foundation at Lower Lake. [Plate] "710" is penciled in margin next to photo. Photo is identical to Plate 62 but has a different caption, description, and date.
Baus description: "Near the bank of the lower lake and between the bank and Coventry Rd. in 1886 the Shakers moved an old frame building on to the foundation of the old saw mill which had been destroyed by fire. The machinery from the old stone mill was moved into the building and Walter Dyke secured a lease of the mill from the Shakers, and operated till the time of his death in 1890, when Thos. R. Skove took over the lease and ran the mill for two years. In 1893 Mr. Skove bought the building and moved it to Woodland and Ingersoll Rd. He tore the building down in 1907 and used the lumber in the construction of his home."Photograph Details
