Description

Sepia-toned black-and-white photographs of the 1917 Boulevard football squad with the names of the students and school staff, including Superintendent A. H. Meese, written in the bottom margin. Coach Bell is dressed in a military uniform. Additional notes on verso along with torn pieces of black paper. A handwritten note from donor Robert J. Clark, Class of 1920, reads: "The attached photo is of the first (1917) official Shaker Hts football team. We were over matched with the first and second teams of South, Cathedral Latin, Heights, etc. We furnished our own equipment, and coaching was provided by one of the instructors. At year's end we were given the felt letter "S" to be put on our own sweaters." Names listed include: Robert J. Clark, Robert Wright, [Robert?] Suloff, J. Teare, Mr. Bell, Walter Sayle, Mighton, E. Teare, L. Wright, G. H. Rudolph, Kissack, M. Penty, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Meese, Edmundson, and Kehres.
