Description

Red Shaker Heights Fire Department firefighter helmet. White metal plate attached to front with "Lieut. Shaker Heights" in red and black and a black label embossed with initials "W. E. P." Small metal plate on back etched with "Shaker Heights Fire Department 114" above a metal d-ring. Zipper, leather strap with red rot, and damaged label on inside. William Pickford, who served as a Shaker Heights Fire Lieutenant from 1956 to 1964, was the only lieutenant with the initials W. P., though his middle name was Kay. It is unclear why the helmet is marked W. E. P. (the initials of his father, William Edwin Pickford) instead of W. K. P.
