The postcard, postmarked December 24, 1909, was sent by Margaret Stoll in Mentor, Ohio to Thomas and Charlotte Stanley in Thompson, Geauga County, R.F.D. [Rural Free Delivery] No. 2, Ohio. The handwritten message on the back reads: "Wishing you both a merry Xmas & a Happy New Year. All send best wishes. Sin- Margaret"Subject Person/Organization
Alma McGill Stoll, Charlotte PilotContext
Margaret "Alma" McGill and her future husband, Joseph Stoll, grew up in the North Union Shaker Village where they met Charlotte Pilot. All three eventually left as the Shaker community declined. Charlotte married Thomas Stanley in 1885, and Margaret married Joseph in 1887. Despite leaving the Shaker village, they maintained their bond as some of the last former Shakers in Northeast Ohio.Collection
