Plate 701 from Shakers & Kirtland by Louis Baus showing the cemetery vault on the west side of Warrensville Center Road, once located between present-day Chagrin Boulevard and Farnsleigh Road.
Baus description: "This old vault built in 1874 was in as good and solid condition as the day it was built. S. Moreland Blvd. is being extended to Warrensville Rd. and cuts into the old vault faceing [sic] the road. Progress is progress so the old landmark must go. The interior had room for eight caskets, laying in teares [sic] one above the other, four on each side. In the early days when the roads were drifted with snow, or formed into swamps it was impossible to reach the cemetery which was on Lee Rd. near Kinsman Rd., the bodies were placed in this vault to await more favorable conditions for burial."Photograph Details
