Boulevard Neighborhood, 20th Century, North Union Shakers, ShakersDescription
Black-and-white photograph of the North Union Shakers' Holy Grove, also known as the Sacred Grove or Jehovah's Beautiful Square. The Holy Grove was a private outdoor worship space established halfway between the North Union Center and East Families during the Era of Manifestations. The remains of the Holy Grove were believed to be on the grounds of the Stanley Motch property, whose house at 17050 South Park was built c.1908. The grove was marked by four locust trees, one in each corner, which may be visible in this photograph.
The photograph has three hole punches, indicating it may have been part of a scrapbook or album.Photograph Details
