Letter from David S. Maynard, in Seattle, to son (Henry Maynard). Maynard indicates that he has received Henry’s letter. Maynard describes four neighbor families that were massacred. He describes the forces in the field, and that help is coming from California. Several war ships are in place for protection. Maynard mentions that the Indians will fight, but they must be conquered. Maynard discusses some improvements on his farm. He urges Henry not to come to Seattle until peace is restored. Maynard indicates that they have a fort and protection where most families shelter every night.
