Letter from David S. Maynard, in Seattle, to son (Henry Maynard). Maynard describes the war and his appointment as Indian Agent, and his gathering of the friendly Indians, in hopes they would remain neutral in the war. He describes at attempt on his life by some hostile Indians. Maynard mentions four man of war ships in the harbor. He indicates that as soon as the war is over, Seattle will rapidly grow. Maynard describes the Indian attacks and killings and unrest in the area.
Maynard outlines which crops and livestocks do well in the area. The war is ongoing with no sign of ending soon.
