West Seattle High School during construction on SW Stevens St in 1917. Opened for classes in fall of 1917, while workers were still finishing building for 7 years after opening students came from as far as White Center and Burien to attend WS only high school. There were originally 38 classrooms.
1917 Chinook magazine: "Now it seems to us that we have one of the finest buildings that could be desired..we can expand and grow and who knows what there shall emerge from the doors of this building, great men and women"
Enrollment jumped from 472 in 1917 to 1402 in 1925.Relationships
