Transcription of Doc Maynard Letter dated March 5, 1858
Letter from David S. Maynard, Alki Farm, King County, W.T., to son (Henry Maynard). He describes his house burning to the ground and details all that he lost. Maynard describes more bad luck in losing several sloops, but indicates that he and his wife are determined to continue. Maynard describes his planting of crops in detail.
Maynard outlines his offer to Henry of land, monthly payment and cattle and farming tools if he comes to Seattle.
Maynard describes the history of the initial settlement on Alki and the ultimate move to Seattle. He goes on to describe their current property on Alki, the buildings, crops, and the history of his property being originally owned by Charles C. Terry.
