Doc Maynard Letter dated January 1, 1854
Letter from David S. Maynard, from Seattle, to Son (Henry Maynard). Maynard hopes that son Henry will understand his reasons for leaving Carlisle, Ohio as his way to procure a start for his children, and indicates his wish for Henry, and Frances, to come to Seattle and elaborates on the land, shops, population that Seattle has. Maynard mentions his new wife and indicates that she has hopes of Henry and Frances living in Seattle. Maynard mentions the Land law that would provide his wife with half of land acreage. Maynard encourages Henry to marry Ellen and come to Seattle. Maynard indicates that the proposed Pacific Railroad terminus should be Seattle.
