Transcription of Doc Maynard Letter dated May 5, 1850
Letter from David S. Maynard to wife and children. Maynard reports from the port of St. Joseph, Michigan on his way to California. He reports on the acquisition of provisions and his recent travel via boats. Maynard mentions the large number of California emigrants. He describes the burning of the Belle of the West boat near Louisville and two men falling overboard. Maynard mentions a shooting accident that occurred at camp.
