Pony Express - The Great Gamble is a good book written at the time of the Pony Express centennial. His book gives a survey history of the Pony Express but adds new information since the Settle writings of the mid 1950s. Contains good photographs of trail sites. Unfortunately, no footnotes. Bibliography of other Pony Express books is good. Appendix lists stations and riders and reprints some of the Pony Express contracts. Index to book.
