95.1P.428 = Elderly woman in dark coat standing by Old Julesburg stone aggregate marker. Round bronze Pony Express Rider plaque embedded. Text of rectangular bronze plaque "Due north 1235 feet is the original site of Old Julesburg named for Jules Beni whose trading post was established at the upper crossing of the Platte prior to 1860. Junction of Oregon and Overland Trails. Pony Express Station, 1860-61. Overland Stage Station 1859-1865. Erected...1931." Also Legend: "Old Julesburg historical marker and historian Mrs. J.W. Cavander at site of only Pony Express station in Colorado. At this point the Pony Express left the stage road to Denver and after crossing the South Platte River headed northwestward up Lodgepole Creek (A Pioneer museum at Julesburg). dated 10/58
