The Shipley Institute of Living Scale, Revised Manual was designed to assess general intellectual functioning in adults and adolescents and to aid in detecting cognitive impairment in individuals with normal original intelligence.
The scale consists of two subtests, a 40 item vocabulary test and a 20 item test of abstract thinking, and measures the discrepancy between vocabulary and abstract concept formation.
Both the Vocabulary and Abstraction subtests are self-administered and can be given either individually or in groups.
