Photocopies of original document that Hugh Lewis used in his research. Documents are from the St. Louis area (Missouri Historical Society and St. Louis Archives). St. Joseph Museum archivists have divided these documents into folders by years beginning with 1797 and ending with the 1850s. One file is of documents of unknown dates. Documents include correspondence, account records, deeds, and other legal documents. Language of documents varies - English, French, and Spanish. This set of files is 2019.13.85 through 2019.13.107. In cabinet they are identified as Missouri Historical Society Documents.
This folder of 18 pages of 7 documents is written in English and French. Two documents are from Joseph Robidoux at Blacksnake Hills to Pierre Chouteau in St. Louis. Robidoux writes of problems of shipping items by boat and of difficulty of getting Indians to pay him. The third letter is from Pierre Chouteau to Andrew Drips in Kansas City is about Drips planned trip to Ft. Pierre. Drips is advised that Robidoux can supply 10 to 20 men from Blacksnake Hills to help on the trip. Also included are 2 deeds and 1 document that binds Joseph Robidoux to pay debt to Chouteau. The final document in the file is a letter from J. C. Slater in St. Joseph to John Slater in Virginia. Of interest because Slater describes life in northwest Missouri. Very good letter.Collection
