Description

Grave plaque belonging to Maud Vanderline of Saint Joseph, Missouri, dated February 20, 1887. The bronze plaque is kept on an image of white flowers, has her first name, the date of death, her age of 23, and the epithet “She is not dead; but sleepeth.” Maud Vanderlinde is also the subject of an urban myth where, after dying while passing through the city, her husband went to a local Native American chief who through supernatural means prevented Maud from ever decomposing. Her mausoleum in Mount Mora cemetery stood open for many years, allowing visitors to peer in. Also included with the object is a printed article from FindAGrave.Com, which has been digitized.
