Hyogo, Miss - A Journey of Friendship is a program written primarily in Japanese. The program includes pictures of Miss Hyogo and it is assumed the others dolls pictured are the friendship dolls sent to Japan in 1927 by Dr. Sidney L. Gulick. In response to Dr. Gulick's dolls, the Japanese started a similar program. Their "Dolls of Gratitude" were sent to the United States. The dolls were given permanent homes throughout the United States. Miss Hyogo came to the Children's Museum of St. Joseph (in 1939 the name was changed to St. Joseph Museum. The friendship doll exchange was rekindled with the visit of Miss Hyogo to her homeland in March and April 1997. The program includes a letter from the Mayor of St. Joseph, Larry R. Stobbs to Akira Kusaka, Chairperson of the Miss Hyogo Homecoming Committee in Japan.Lexicon
