Pony Express Carving, News Photo, c. 1938. St. Joseph News-Press. Small news photo of a tabletop carving of a Pony Express rider leaving the stables, modeled after the Charles Hargens painting, "First Ride". Created by local resident.
Caption: "This carving, illustrating a familiar scene from St. Joseph's history, the start of a Pony Express rider on his perilous trip to the West Coast, was made by twenty-one-year-old Edward Ostrowski. His father's success inspired the son to adopt a like hobby and he has made more than a dozen wood carvings during the last two years. Ordinary paint is used in tinting the carvings."Lexicon
