Philips (William, Rev.) Family History, 1746-1973. Rev. William Philips was the rector at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1869-1871. He brought his wife, Martha (Hook) and his children to St. Joseph, where the family remained. After disputes within the Episcopal church, Philips converted to Catholicism and became a professor of English literature in Catholic colleges in St. Louis and New Jersey, coming home only in summer. He was also known as an orator and lecturer.
