Context

Czechoslovakia 14 May 45 Mrs. George C. Spalsbury 806 South Eleventh St. St. Joseph, Missouri Dear Mrs. Spalsbury Your letter of April 25th has just been received. On 23 April your son was transferred to the 179th General Hospital APO 562, c/o Postmaster, N.Y. We have not heard from him since that time. As to the reason for his admission to the hospital, he was at that time suffering from the equivalent of Battle fatigue, but in excellent physical health. I can give you no further information, but feel sure your son is being well cared for. His service with us was at all times excellent and marked by great effort, his company mates were very sorry to see him go. We all wish for your son a speedy recovery, and sincerely hope that by now you have been in touch with him. Yours truly, WW Smith Lt. Col. C.E.
