One photo of Pony (re-) rider with Mayor standing by horse in front of Pikes Peak Stables. (same as 95.1P.705). Caption " Mayor McIninch bidding bon voyage to Pony Expess Riders Shepherd a few moments before the start. Charles Waddels, president St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce is left of picture."
The other photo of that rider on horseback on barge that would take him across the Missouri River. Caption: "Rider Shepherd on barge being ferried across the Missouri river from the foot of Francis street. This is in accordance with history, for the Pony Express riders of 1860 crossed the Missouri by ferry. The steamboat R. J. Stewart, with Captain Stewart in command, is towing the barge"
