Jones, William H. The Council record for William H. Jones was that he served from 9/11/1883 to 4/13/1886. Herald October 11, 1885 ; W. H Jones was the principal of Lincoln High school. He was born in Plattsburg, Missouri of slave parents. His early education was obtained in St. Joseph but he also spent five years at the Lincoln Institute graduating in 1876. He began teaching in 1887. He was the executive management of the entire school. He devoted his personal attention to geometry and trigonometry, and as his forte is mathematics, also taught two classes in algebra. In this folder is a photocopy picture of the colored high school and the Lincoln school. Herald, June 27, 1996; this was the eighth annual commencement. W. H. Jones is the principal and has conducted the schools of St. Joseph for a number of years. His corps of assistants the past year in the High school were J. H. Simms and Lillian M. Jackson. St. Joseph Gazette June 22, 1927 has the obituary of W. H. Jones. Burial was at Mount Mora cemetery. Professor Jones, as he was generally known was elected city councilman and served two terms. He represented the old fifth ward when there were only five city wards. He was a member of the Wilkerson Lodge No. 28. He leaves only a daughter-in-law Mrs. Mary Jones of St. Joseph. W. H. Jones is listed a Principal of Bartlett School in the year 1913-1918. St. Joseph News-Press April 29, 1901 W. H. Jones has accepted an invitation to deliver the literary address before the students of Lincoln Institute at Jefferson City at the commencement exercises in June. 1920 United States Federal Census: William H. Jones St. Joseph Ward 6 Buchanan, Missouri ;64 years, estimated birth 1856, birthplace Missouri, head of house, fathers birthplace Virginia, Mother's birthplace Kentucky, Marital status Widow, Race Black, Sex Male. A memo to Suzanne Lehr from Barbara Turner states that Logan Jones was W. H. Henry's father. He is colored. He died June 17, 1927. He was born October 12, 1854 . He died of chronic valvular heart disease, and mitral insufficiency. He was married to Alice Olivia Armstrong Jones.
