Description

Journal of a Trapper, 1834-1843 is the diary of Osborne Russell during the 1800's at the height of the fur trade in the Rocky Mountains. It is perhaps the best account of the fur trapper in the rocky Mountains when the trade was at its peak there. It contains descriptions of his experiences with Nathan J. Wyeth's expedition to the Rocky Mountains and the mouth of the Columbia River in 1834. It is a factual narrative by one who was not only a trapper but a keen observer and an able writer. Some of the Indians he encountered were the Blackfeet, Bannocks, Crows, Iowas, Kanzas, Snakes, and Sioux. Journal of a Trapper. It also describes his activity with the provisional government of Oregon in 1843. edited by Aubrey L. Haines 191/Softbound/Illustration/Maps.
