Dear Mother & Father Gerrish,
Little Julia Gage Seiberling is getting along splendidly, her Mother even more splendidly, and her Father is expected to pull through all right. He is making frequent trips to the hospital, as he finds great comfort in hearing the strong voice of Julia's Mother. He was dangerously near a nervous collapse at 7:47 p.m. Monday, but his wife's cheering words and reassuring manner are bringing back his strength. At 7:47 o'clock last night, I arrived in Akron on the day train from Chicago, having spent the whole day on the train knowing Mary had gone to the hospital, and nothing more. I hope I never have to spend a day like that again. I left Mary Sunday night feeling as usual, to find a wire waiting for me upon arriving in Chicago the next morning telling me to come right back. I phoned the Aero Club to see if they had any planes in passenger service, but no luck, so I had to drag home in a train that makes almost as good time as the 20th Century Limited, but to me it seemed as slow as a freighter. I wired Father to wire me in care of the conductor of train No 10, but his wire missed connections. So I arrived in Akron without knowing anything. When I learned a baby daughter had arrived even before I left Chicago. That was a partial load off my shoulders. then when I tip toed into Mary's room and found her with one arm stretched up to a rose leaning out toward her from a large bouquet on the stand by the bed, and saw her touching the petals, I felt another load removed - she had enough interest in life to enjoy the beauty of a rose. Then came the big surprise - she saw me, her eyes brightened and she spoke - not in a faint far away voice, but in clear strong tones the way she talks when she is feeling particularly peppy. I could hardly believe my ears. I never was so glad to hear her voice like that since I've known her.
Saw her just before supper, am going down now to visit about a half hour before she is ready for sleep, and then will see her at 7:00 a.m. when I take the nurse down. More later, WillardTranscriber
