Black and white photographic print of a young boy standing on a boat dock which extends from bottom of image diagonally to the right. Dock which extends from bottom of image diagonally to the right. Dock is constructed of wooden planks with three wooden piers at the far end on the right. Water surrounds on left and at background with land visible at horizon level. Boy stands facing camera with both hands behind back, wearing dark swimming trunks or shorts, feet are bare, short medium dark hair, appears to be smiling at camera as well as squinting in the sunlight. Jimmy was the son of Nellie Racey Koger (b. 1904) who was the Seiberlings' cook at Stan Hywet Hall. Hand written on the back in ink "My brother Jimmy/ 9 years old on/ the dock at Cedar/ lodge. You can tell/ he was good at/ hiding."Photograph Details

Modern print given to Stan Hywet by Eleanor Rastetter, Morgantown, W. Va., daughter of Nellie Racey Koger, the Seiberlings' cook, who traveled to Hessel with the Seiberlings in the summer of 1942 and was permitted to bring her two children with her, Eleanor and Jimmy. Eleanor celebrated her 13th birthday that summer in Hessel.Created By
