My dear little Penny Boy,
This is my birthday letter to you, and you will notice I have drawn 8 pictures showing how you have grown from a little helpless baby to a boy big enough to ride a bicycle. Your Mamma will give you a bicycle as our birthday present which I know you will very much enjoy. You can ride around the tennis court and maybe the path through the woods will be good enough so that you can ride down to camp. As "Corny" was so good as to let you learn on his machine you must be real good to him and let him ride whenever he wants to, and if "Ginnie's" legs are long enough perhaps before the summer is over you can teach her how to ride. I wish I could be with you on your 8th birthday but I know you will have the happiest kind of a time because on that day your big brothers will know better than to try to tease you, and all will be happy with you. Remember what I said about changing seats in the boat when you go out rowing. Also not to go alone when you sail your little boat. Good bye with lots of hugs and kisses to my lovely little Piper boy from his loving Papa.
