Description

Letterhead is Seiberling Rubber Company, Akron 9, Ohio and handwritten in blue ink. The writer opens the letter stating they are back from a weekend in Detroit and will be back there again the next Tuesday. The writer jokes about having a conveyer belt to ride back and forth that Bart Stewart is promoting. The writer mentions they had hoped to get down to New York while the reader was there, but won't make it for at least two weeks, and that the rubber rationing has messed things up. The writer provides an update on F.A. doing fine but doesn't want to continue massages and seems happier without them. The writer acknowledges the danger of a possible blood clot which would cause an embolism and Dr. Gold doesn't like the idea. The writer also mentions F.A. has been down to the music room, sits up every day, is mentally quite good, and enjoyed having Franklin's family visit. The writer specifically mentions Angela being a super sweet child, so lively, and full of impish ways. The writer mentions Bob enjoying the rest of not going to school. The writer closes with describing spring slowly blossoming and having plenty of flowers in the coming week. The writer closes the letter with telling the reader to take their time returning, things are going along ok, and that they miss them, and signs it "As ever Fred."

4 – 6 – ‘51 Dear Irene------ Back from Detroit for over the week end [sic]– then back up there again next Tuesday. I ought to have one of those conveyor belts to ride back + forth like Bart Stewart is trying to promote. Now I had hoped to get down to New York while you were there. On account of Detroit business it seems likely [sic], at this moment, that I can’t make it for at least tuo [sic] weeks. This rubber rationing has messed thinks [sic] up terrifically. But I wanted to tell you that father seems to be doing fine. He’s raised cain [sic] about the massage and roared disapproval of its continuance. So that is out for the time being. But its just as well for he seems to be happier without it. Furthermore there is a danger of massaging starting a blood clot in motion which would cause an embolism. Doc Gold doesn’t like the idea. Maybe he’s right. At least he ought to know more about it than I do. He’s been down stairs [sic] to the music room a couple of times, sits up every day and is mentally quite good. He loved having Franklin + his tribes’ visit there. That little Angela is a super sweet child, so lively + full of impish ways. Bob seems to be enjoying the rest of not going to school. The spring season is slowly blossoming fourth [sic]. I’m sure we will have plenty of spring flowers by another week. Well take your time about returning. Things are going along O.K. in the main. I miss you though. As ever Fred [Written at top of first page] I want to write Sally a letter re – the new baby but I forgot to find out the address from Bob. Hope she is getting along nicely. Fred
