Dear Pop;
I know I was a most careless fool in ever playing such a joke which worked the wrong way.
It was not nearly so destructive as Mr. Willcox seemed to have informed you. In the first place, the insurance company is going to pay for the fixing of the closet. All I must stand for is what was burned of the boy's clothes.
I asked the fellow to give me a list of the goods burned and he did. It sums up to 89 dollars. However, he said some of the clothes he would never have worn again except when camping and that 75 would be all right. Either make the check out to me or Peebles for seventy five dollars. Whew! it’s fierce, but I suppose it must be done. If you make it out to Peebles, his name is Joseph B. Peebles. He is mighty decent about it. At first he only wanted to take twenty dollars. Peebles is going home Monday so send the money right away. I ought to be studying English.
Good Bye
Lovingly your careless son
Frederick.
To-morrow is the final game in base-ball between us and the Woodhull House. We get the championship if we win.Transcriber
