Dear Mrs. Seiberling,
Mamma wants me to write and tell you how glad she will be to see you all in September and that you must plan to stay here as long as you like. I know you will enjoy the trip into Canada but don’t wait too long to go or the rains set in and it is bad going.
Is your house party in full swing. I think so often of 3 years ago when we were there. It was like the Rostov’s country house in “War and Peace”, with all your family around and all the guests. You ought to read that now if you never have for it gives one an idea of what war is like
I hope you have no friends abroad. I should hate to have Mademoiselle leave you for I liked so much to see her at your house. Will Franklin come with you in September? I am glad Irene is progressing so well with her music. I thought she had improved in June and I only heard her once and then she was tired.
Give my love to every one [sic]
your loving friend
Kitty Baird

Writer references "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy. They specifically compare the Seiberling's house to the Rostovs family country home. The Rostovs are characters in the story.Create Date
