My dear Gertrude
You did just the right thing to send Irene here. We do so enjoy her – and all our friends did too – I only missed fire on giving her the car once – + that was going down to the Waldorf the last night, that was doing very well with all of us flying around I did my best to keep her here instead of going to Akron before her trip to Ithaca for I thought it was a hard jaunt for her doing two sides of a triangle instead of one. Had she stayed I think I would have taken them all to the Charity Ball Tuesday night. [Illegible] had some men to supper, but they were gone in time for us to have gotten them in time to see the show – I am afraid all the young people are trying like their elders – to do too much - but tired as they were I guess Irene enjoyed herself – She likes the world + everything on it the sun is always shining for her. She has a blessed mind + disposition. Our latch string is always open to her – we are getting “settled” – Helen begins her French today – Kitty is taking piano – Hurrah! for the finger exercises! the walls are thick here – for we have babies on both sides of us + never hear them or see them either, but we see the little darling dogs carried in + out by the French Maids. Verily New York is the city of Pet Dogs, you will be coming back here soon Let us know won’t you? Write me a note in advance I know you are so rushed here but we always like to get a peep at you + have you come up don’t deny us that Thanking you for Irene bright face + company, I am lovingly yours –
