Jan. 4, 1948 Dearest Irene, Enclosed please find check for $36.50 for my share of the picture window. This was a great inspiration and I’m sure the finest Christmas present we could have given father at the present time. Let us hope he will enjoy it for many months to come. Thank you for all of the work involved in promoting it, ordering it, getting it installed and especially for the beautiful and colorful presentation – all of which took a lot of time, thought, effort and enthusiasm. I want to thank you also for your famous calendar with the inspirational sayings. I don’t how [sic] many years you have been giving us this present – but it has truly become an integral part of our daily lives – as it hangs in our dressing room and is viewed every day – at least once. I get a big lift out of it and would miss it greatly, so you may know how much it is appreciated. Saw Gertsie at the Triangle Club dance and she seemed to be having an exciting time. She is a sweet girl and I feel badly I saw so little of her during the past two weeks. Today is the last day of vacation and I must confess it is last without regret as far as I’m concerned as I know I couldn’t take another week of it. Last night I slept eleven hours – but even so am still tired from working all day and trying to go half the night. I guess I’m just getting old – but I can’t take the noise, confusion, excitement and lack of sleep like I used to. Much love - Pen
