Page 1 [Letterhead] The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. AKRON, OHIO, June 8, 1908. Miss Irene Seiberling, Wellesley, Mass. My dear Irene, - I have written Frederic to take the Fall River boat on the afternoon of the 17th and meet me at the Touraine Hotel in Boston the morning of the 18th, where you should arrive by seven o'clock. We will immediately take breakfast and with the car in waiting will start at once for Wellesley. We can arrive there at nine o'clock, if it is possible for your party to be ready at that time, but if ten is the earliest you can possibly get away we will time it so as to get there at that hour. I want to get away from Wellesley as early as it is possible for you to arrange it for the reason that I have a little business to attend to at Springfield and the stop may be of such duration as to prevent our reaching Stockbridge or Lenox the same evening, unless we can get away as early as nine o'clock. Of course, if your school does not close until ten that will dispose of the matter, but I simply want you to take advantage of all the time that you can get that we may have as early a start Page 2 I. S.- #2 as possible, so please write me at once stating just what the earliest hour will be. Now I want you girls to consolidate your suit cases or valises as much as possible, so that we need not carry any more luggage than is absolutely necessary and suit cases are preferable to satchels, as we can strap them on the rear and carry them handily. Would it be possible for you and Margaret to use one suit case, and if each of the other girls have one apiece it will make four in the party, which is about all we can strap on in the rear. Frederic and Arthur will have to have one between them and I will endeavor to get along without any, using my bag. Your trunks can be expressed to Akron. You might need an automobile waterproof of some sort, and if so, and you happen in Boston stop in at Bailey & Co., a few doors from the Touraine Hotel, and you can get something that will answer your purpose. If you haven't enough money with you, they will send the bill to me if you explain who you are. My present plan is to be in Stockbridge or Lenox over Thursday night, reaching Lake George Friday night and staying until Sunday morning, when we start West by way of Saratoga, Schenectady, Utica, etc. Our trip can vary from that point on according to circumstances and its duration will be from five to ten days, as we may want to make it. Page 3 I. H. S. #3 Write me stating how much hand luggage you will have and put it in form of suit cases as much as possible and also state just when you will be ready to get away from school. The weather is awful hot here, which has had the effect of stopping the growth of Franklin Augustus Jr., but as we are promised showers I think he will make progress from now on. Your mama is feeling fine and as Virginia and Penfield are able to go barefooted they are having a happy time. I was up at Hessel last Saturday, saw Joe, who is sick with some head trouble, having lost considerable weight so that he is very thin. Adolph and Michael were working at the boats and old Mr. Osogwin was moving around as swiftly as of yore. Our cottage was broken into last Winter but I could not see that anything had been taken, though doubtless later we will discover something gone. The old Fenlon store was burnt down completely and a new one has been erected across the road. With much love, Your Father F.A.S./C.B. (Handwritten postscript crossed out with handwritten note across the bottom) P.S. A letter from Fred says he and Arthur will be detained until 20th, so I am going to suggest that they meet us at Lake George. above should not have been crossed out
